What Happened At Brooding’s First-Ever Live Parenting Event?

What Happened At Brooding’s First-Ever Live Parenting Event?

What happens when a newsletter about the dark, funny, and exhausting side of parenting tries to do a live show? For Brooding, the answer was a sold-out room full of sleep-deprived parents, a few crying babies, and a lot of raw honesty. The event, co-hosted by Odd Lots' Joe Weisenthal, traded the usual financial charts for diaper blowouts and toddler tantrums.

Weisenthal, known for his deep dives into monetary policy, instead fielded questions about the economics of childcare and the hidden costs of raising a child in 2024. The highlight of the night was a rapid-fire segment where parents shared their most ridiculous parenting fails. One attendee admitted to accidentally putting the dog's leash on their toddler during a park trip. Another confessed to using a spreadsheet to track their baby's nap schedule, only to realize the kid had been sleeping in the wrong crib for three days.

The tone was unpolished and real. No curated Instagram moments. Instead, the crowd laughed at the shared misery of teething, sleep regression, and the impossible task of finding a babysitter on a Friday night. Brooding's founder closed the night by reminding everyone that parenting is less about perfection and more about surviving the chaos with a sense of humor. For a first live event, it was messy, loud, and exactly what the audience needed.
