This week, let's touch upon the bittersweet reality of magical moments, postpartum, breastfeeding, sleepless nights, and how motherhood changed my body, and me.
No one hands you a manual for the quiet hours before dawn, when the baby finally settles and you sit alone with your thoughts. The internet offers plenty of advice, but it rarely captures the strange mix of love and exhaustion that defines those first months. Breastfeeding, for all its celebrated benefits, can feel isolating. The cluster feeds, the cracked skin, the constant questioning of whether you are producing enough. Then there is the mirror, which tells a different story than the one you expected. Stretch marks, a softer middle, hair falling out in handfuls. These are not failures. They are evidence of what your body built and continues to sustain.
The magical moments do arrive. A first smile, a tiny hand curling around your finger, the weight of a sleeping baby on your chest. But they sit beside the hard parts, not instead of them. Postpartum is not a season to rush through or fix. It is a slow, uneven becoming. Some days you grieve your old life. Other days you feel a love so fierce it frightens you. Both can be true. Both are allowed. If you are in the thick of it, know that you are not alone, and you are not doing it wrong.
