Study reveals exhausting reality of breastfeeding

A new survey of 2,000 mothers has uncovered the exhausting reality of breastfeeding, with two in five moms of young children reporting that parenting feels like a job for which the day is simply too short. The research highlights the physical and mental strain that often goes unspoken, as mothers juggle feeding schedules, sleep deprivation, and household responsibilities.

Many respondents described breastfeeding as a round-the-clock commitment that leaves little time for self-care or rest. The constant demand, combined with the pressure to produce enough milk, contributes to feelings of burnout. Some mothers noted that the lack of visible breaks makes parenting feel more like a relentless shift than a rewarding experience.

The study also found that a significant number of mothers feel unprepared for the intensity of breastfeeding. While many receive advice on latch techniques or nutrition, few are warned about the sheer time and energy it consumes. This gap in support leaves women struggling in silence, often blaming themselves for not coping better.

Experts suggest that partners, family members, and employers need to recognize breastfeeding as labor-intensive work. Simple acts like bringing water, taking over other chores, or offering emotional support can make a difference. Without this acknowledgment, mothers may continue to feel isolated and overwhelmed.
