Brain development is now taking centre stage. Parents are looking for ways to help develop their child's brain from an early age. Some parents even look for gadgets and toys in attempts to make their baby smarter. But what are the most effective ways to nurture a baby's developing brain?
According to a pediatrician, some of the most effective ways to nurture a baby's developing brain are surprisingly simple - and they cost little or nothing. In a recent video, pediatrician Dr. Abhishek shared five everyday parenting habits that can help lay the foundation for healthy brain development.
The first habit is talking to your baby as if they understand you. Even before a baby can speak back, hearing words and tone of voice helps build language pathways in the brain. The second habit involves making eye contact during feeding and play. This simple act helps babies learn to focus and connect with caregivers.
The third habit is responding to a baby's cries and coos quickly. When a parent responds consistently, the baby learns that communication matters, which builds trust and emotional security. The fourth habit is reading aloud from an early age, even if the baby just looks at pictures. This introduces rhythm, vocabulary, and bonding.
The fifth habit is giving the baby plenty of tummy time and floor play. Physical movement helps the brain build connections for balance, coordination, and problem-solving. Dr. Abhishek emphasized that expensive toys are not necessary. What babies need most is loving, attentive interaction with their parents. These five habits, done daily, can make a real difference without costing a dime.
