ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Maryland is launching an eight-week virtual parenting program for up to 300 fathers, run in partnership with the Parent Encouragement Program. The sessions will focus on family relationships, children's mental health and success in school.
Gov. Wes Moore announced the partnership Oct. 14 during the Baltimore Banner Impact Summit. According to the governor's office, the effort is meant to give fathers practical tools they can use at home and to strengthen the role they play in their children's daily lives.
The program is open to fathers across the state and will be delivered entirely online, which organizers say should make it easier for working parents to take part. Sessions will cover communication within the family, ways to support a child's emotional well-being and strategies for staying involved in schoolwork and school activities.
State officials described the initiative as part of a broader push to back families and improve outcomes for children. The Parent Encouragance Program, a longtime provider of parenting education, will lead the weekly sessions and work with participants throughout the eight-week run.
Fathers interested in joining can find enrollment details through the state's announcement. Space is limited to 300 participants.
