Cecily Strong is getting real about the messy, beautiful reality of raising a one-year-old, and one part of it caught her completely off guard. In a recent chat with Parents, the former Saturday Night Live cast member opened up about life with her daughter, now 15 months old, and admitted that the sweetness of certain everyday moments turned out to be a huge surprise.
Strong, who has kept much of her personal life private, talked about how she and her partner handle the brutal early mornings. They tag-team the toddler shifts, she explained, trading off who gets to stumble to the crib when the sun is barely up. She described the chaotic breakfast negotiations that follow, where a simple bowl of oatmeal can become a high-stakes standoff. But amid the mess and the sleep deprivation, she found something she did not expect: the quiet, overwhelming tenderness of those tiny, ordinary interactions.
The actress also touched on her IVF journey, revealing that she went through the process alongside her best friends. Having that shared experience, she said, made the harder days feel less lonely. It was a reminder that she was never really alone in the waiting rooms or the uncertainty.
What matters most now, Strong said, is not the big milestones or picture-perfect moments. It is the small wins, like getting her daughter to eat a vegetable or stealing a few extra minutes of calm before the chaos starts. Those little victories, she said, are what make the whole thing worth it.
