Browns GM Berry Jokes About Myles Garrett Trade Causing 'Poor Parenting Moment' with His Son

Browns GM Berry Jokes About Myles Garrett Trade Causing 'Poor Parenting Moment' with His Son

Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry is used to making tough football decisions, but one of the hardest conversations this offseason happened at his own dinner table. Berry joked this week that his eight-year-old son did not take the news well when he learned that star defensive end Myles Garrett had been traded to the Los Angeles Rams. The kid was also upset about tight end David Njoku leaving in free agency.

Berry called it a "poor parenting moment" during a press conference, explaining that his son is a big fan of the players and does not fully understand the business side of the NFL. The GM laughed it off, saying that the boy will eventually come around, but for now, there is some tension at home. He admitted that explaining trades and contract moves to a child is a lot harder than explaining them to the media or the fan base.

The trade of Garrett, a former Defensive Player of the Year, was a major shakeup for the Browns. Sending him to the Rams brought back draft capital and salary cap relief, but it also signaled a rebuild in Cleveland. Njoku, a fan favorite and reliable pass catcher, also walked away in free agency, adding to the list of departures.

Berry did not go into detail about the team's future plans, but he made it clear that the front office is focused on building a competitive roster. As for his son, Berry said he is hoping a few wins next season will help smooth things over. Until then, he is just trying to keep the peace at home.
